3devo has launched the Filament Maker X10, an extruder built for 24/7 unattended filament production from powders, regrinds, and recycled SLS waste.

3devo has officially launched the Filament Maker X10 (FMX10), a filament production system designed for continuous, unattended operation in industrial settings. The Dutch company says the machine can process powders, regrinds, and pellets into finished spooled filament at up to 1.5 kg per hour, roughly five times the throughput of its previous model.

Built for the Recycling Problem Nobody Wants to Solve

The FMX10's most compelling use case is recycling waste from powder-bed fusion processes. Multi Jet Fusion and SLS machines produce powder that typically goes unused after each build. 3devo estimates that 50 to 60 percent of powder can be left over per job, with material costs ranging from EUR 50 to EUR 100 per kilogram. Converting that waste into usable filament is an economic argument the FMX10 is explicitly designed to address.

3devo says it has recycled over 2,000 kg of MJF PA12 powder on FMX10 machines in the past year, using the material for its own manufacturing lines. UK-based Filamentive has already launched rPA12 filament made from MJF powder waste processed on a Filament Maker X10, calling it the first commercially available filament of that kind.

Technical Specifications

The FMX10 runs four independent heating zones up to 450 degrees C, held to a +/- 0.1 degree C stability. The screw is made from tempered DC53 tool steel, hardened to 58 to 62 HRC, with a 17.75 L/D ratio. A 3-axis optical diameter sensor at the end of the cooling path feeds a closed-loop control system that holds the filament diameter to a +/- 30 micron tolerance on the spool.

The cooling path runs 2.80 metres total, combining a 1 metre silicone conveyor belt with a 1.8 metre return section. The hopper holds 7.25 litres with a vibration feeder operating at 50 to 350 Hz. The winder accommodates spools up to 3 kg or 300 mm diameter, with a locking spool holder and remote monitoring over a local network or optional internet connection.

Nozzle options include E3D copper variants rated to 450 degrees C and hardened tool-steel versions for abrasive compounds. Power is configurable for 110V or 230V.

Who Is This For?

The FMX10 is not a desktop filament extruder. At 1785 x 400 x 692 mm and built for 24/7 operation, it is aimed at service bureaus, material suppliers, and manufacturers running multiple SLS or MJF machines who want to close the loop on their powder waste. The price is available on request through 3devo's product information form.

The FMX10 was first announced on August 25, 2026, and is now available for order.
