Additive Assurance reports that a major aerospace OEM is using its AMiRIS system to move beyond post-build inspection and toward real-time decision-ready evidence.
Additive Assurance says a top-tier aerospace original equipment manufacturer is now using its AMiRIS in-process quality assurance platform to monitor metal 3D printed parts in real time. The deployment marks a shift from traditional post-build inspection toward layer-by-layer decision-ready evidence that can scale across a manufacturing ecosystem.
AMiRIS is designed to work with multiple laser powder bed fusion machine brands, avoiding the lock-in that comes with OEM-specific monitoring tools. The system captures thermal and process data during printing, then flags anomalies that could lead to defects. The goal is to give engineers a common analysis layer instead of forcing them to learn a new proprietary algorithm every time they change platforms.
A senior engineer at the unnamed aerospace OEM put it plainly: "As an aerospace business, we don't just qualify parts on one machine family. If we're serious about scaling AM, we need an approach we can apply across our supply chain without rewriting the playbook every time we change platform."
Marten Jurg, CEO of Additive Assurance, has made the case that in-situ systems should be judged on correlation, not just detection. The system looks for process anomalies, not final defects, and ties thermal signals back to CT scans and mechanical testing to build a reliable dataset over time.
Aerospace has been slow to adopt metal additive for serial production precisely because quality validation is expensive and time-consuming. If AMiRIS can shorten the feedback loop between build and qualification, it could help more suppliers reach the certification bar without inflating part costs.
