Under a platform called Project R.A.P. — Radical Athlete Perception, the brand is using 3D printing to create sports products tailored to the unique movements of individual athletes and disciplines, rather than mass-producing a single last-and-sole recipe for everyone.

The headline moment came when Philadelphia Union's Cavan Sullivan laced up what is being described as the first fully 3D printed football boot worn in a professional match. Adidas says the design process behind the R.A.P. platform was informed by input from top footballers including Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ademola Lookman.
