ATLIX has retired the TruPrint name, unifying its additive manufacturing systems under the new xBUILD brand starting September 1.

What changed

ATLIX, the industrial metal AM company formerly known as TRUMPF Additive Manufacturing, has officially retired the TruPrint brand. All systems now ship under the xBUILD name. The company says the move streamlines its portfolio ahead of two major trade shows: IMTS in Chicago and Formnext in Frankfurt.

The rebrand covers the full hardware lineup: laser powder bed fusion machines, material systems, and software. Existing TruPrint customers will still receive service and support. ATLIX says spare parts and consumables will keep their current part numbers for the foreseeable future.

Why now

The timing is deliberate. Formnext 2026 runs in November, and ATLIX wants the xBUILD identity locked in before the global additive manufacturing crowd arrives. The company also plans to use IMTS in September to target US aerospace and medical manufacturers who may not have followed the European brand change.

ATLIX has not announced any new hardware alongside the rebrand. The xBUILD family includes the same platform sizes and laser configurations that were previously sold as TruPrint 500, 1000, and 2700. What changed is the story: ATLIX now frames xBUILD as a unified production platform rather than a series of separate printers.

Market context

Industrial metal 3D printing is getting crowded. Desktop Metal, Markforged, and SLM Solutions all compete for the same aerospace and automotive contracts. A clean brand reset makes it easier for sales teams to pitch a single platform story instead of explaining a lineage of product names that date back to the TRUMPF era.

The renaming also removes confusion for buyers who never connected TRUMPF with industrial 3D printing. TRUMPF is better known for laser cutting and machine tools. By spinning out ATLIX and now the xBUILD brand, the company is trying to stand on its own in the AM market without the parent company's branding overshadowing it.

What to watch

Formnext will be the first real test of the xBUILD brand in front of a global audience. Look for new machine announcements, software updates, and possibly a partnership or acquisition that shows ATLIX is serious about expanding beyond its current laser PBF focus.
