KeySplint Hard Clear is a new biocompatible resin for the Lumia X1, formulated for post-trauma tooth immobilization and clear dental retainers.

Axtra3D has added a second validated dental material to its Lumia X1 lineup. The company is now shipping KeySplint Hard Clear, a biocompatible resin developed in partnership with Keystone Industries' KeyPrint division, for use on its Lumia X1 Hi-Speed SLA 3D printer.

What It Is For

KeySplint Hard Clear is formulated for two specific dental applications: post-trauma tooth immobilization splints and clear retainers. Those are both wear-facing, mouth-contact parts that need to hold up to daily use without degrading. The resin is designed to resist staining and abrasion from eating, drinking, and the constant contact of being pressed against teeth. It is also biocompatible, which is a regulatory requirement for any material going into a patient's mouth for extended periods.

The Clear variant is the only color validated for the Lumia X1 so far. KeySplint Hard is also available in Light Violet, but that version has not completed validation for this printer. Axtra3D and Keystone are working through additional material validations, including KeyGuide, KeyOrtho Model, KeySplint Soft, and KeySplint Soft Clear.

Why the Lumia X1 Pairing Matters

Axtra3D's Lumia X1 uses a Hi-Speed SLA process that combines a laser and DLP projector simultaneously, which the company says delivers a twentyfold throughput improvement over traditional SLA while maintaining dimensional accuracy. That throughput matters in a dental lab where turnaround time drives revenue.

The near-isotropic accuracy of the Lumia X1 is the specific reason KeySplint Hard Clear works well on it. Dental wearables require a precise fit to each individual patient. Inconsistent layer adhesion or surface variation across axes would produce parts that do not seat correctly, which is unacceptable in a clinical context.

What It Means for Labs

Axtra3D is pitching this as a workflow improvement for dental labs looking to reduce part variability. If a resin and printer pairing produces consistent results across repeated builds, labs spend less time on quality control and rework. KeySplint Hard Clear requires minimal post-processing compared to some competing dental resins, which adds another efficiency argument.

KeySplint Hard Clear is available now through Axtra3D sales channels. Dental labs interested in the material can contact the company directly for ordering details.
