Carbon's new DB 4000 denture base resin is FDA-cleared and claims 31% higher fracture toughness than the current category leader.

Carbon has released DB 4000, a denture base resin engineered specifically for digital labs running its M-Series printers. The material earned FDA clearance as a Class II device and meets ISO 20795-1, the global standard for high-impact denture bases.

What makes DB 4000 different

The resin's name comes from its work-of-fracture rating: 4,000 joules per square meter, measured at body temperature in water. Carbon says that figure is 31% higher than the published result for the market's most widely used denture resin. The company also reports 97% global print accuracy within plus or minus 130 microns and 95% intaglio accuracy within plus or minus 100 microns.

DB 4000 uses a single-cure, one-part workflow. Labs do not need to mix additional materials or change their existing digital denture process. The resin is built into Carbon's Automatic Print Preparation software, part of the AO Suite, so it slots into current M-Series print jobs without new hardware.

Shades and availability

The resin ships in four gingiva shades: Light Pink, Original Pink, Dark Reddish Pink, and Dark Meharry. Those cover light, standard, and deeply pigmented tissue tones. Carbon says DB 4000 costs less per part than the leading alternative, based on manufacturer suggested retail pricing. It is available now in the United States for labs already validated on Carbon's M-Series platform.

Why it matters

Denture bases take serious abuse: chewing, temperature swings, and repeated cleaning cycles. A resin that stays strong longer means fewer remakes and lower costs for labs. Carbon is pushing hard on dental materials, and DB 4000 is its most aggressive move yet against the incumbent denture-base suppliers.
