Stefan Hermann puts two popular laser-line 3D scanners through real-world tests on N64 controllers, Vespa parts, and more to see which one actually deserves your money.
The Scanner Test Everyone Asked For
CNC Kitchen host Stefan Hermann finally tackled the comparison a lot of makers have been waiting for: the Creality Raptor Pro versus the Revopoint Metro Y Pro. Both sit in the mid-price laser-line scanner bracket. Both promise high accuracy. The question is whether either one justifies the cost.
What Each Scanner Claims
Creality entered the scanner market with the Raptor Pro, pushing a blue laser line system with a stated accuracy of 0.02 mm. Revopoint has been in this space longer. The Metro Y Pro uses a different optical setup and sells on ease of use alongside its 0.05 mm accuracy claim. On paper, the Creality looks more precise. In practice, the numbers only matter if the software stays out of your way.
The Real-World Test
Stefan ran both scanners through identical checks: an N64 controller shell, a Vespa side panel, and a few mechanical brackets. The Raptor Pro captured fine geometry faster and needed fewer rescans. The Metro Y Pro handled shiny and dark surfaces slightly better, which matters if you scan existing plastic parts without spraying them with matte powder.
Software and Usability
This is where the comparison gets messy. Creality's software is functional but clunky. Auto-alignment works, though the interface feels like it was designed for engineers who already know what every button does. Revopoint's app is friendlier to first-time users and offers better auto-rotation support, but it locked up twice during testing on mid-spec hardware.
Which One Should You Buy?
If you scan small to medium parts and care most about raw detail, the Raptor Pro wins. If you need a scanner that handles odd shapes and difficult surfaces with less prep work, the Metro Y Pro is the safer pick. Neither is perfect. Both are usable. The gap between them is smaller than the marketing suggests.
