Creality's upcoming K3 swaps nozzles in five seconds, prints 80A TPU, and mixes nozzle sizes mid-print. Here's what we know so far.
Creality is building a consumer 3D printer that changes nozzles the way a machinist swaps end mills: fast, repeatable, and without swapping the entire toolhead. The system, called KliTek, will debut on the K3 flagship later this year, and the company has already shared enough detail to see where this is going.
What KliTek Actually Does
KliTek is a lightweight nozzle-changing architecture. The nozzle assembly weighs one-fifth of a full toolhead, and the swap takes about five seconds. Creality kept the moving part minimal by design: only the hotend assembly moves, which keeps calibration simple and the filament path visible for troubleshooting.
The immediate benefit is multi-color and multi-material printing without the purge towers that eat filament and time on single-nozzle systems. But the bigger story is what happens when you pair fast nozzle changes with different nozzle diameters.
Mix Nozzle Sizes in a Single Print
Conventional printers are stuck with one nozzle diameter for an entire job. KliTek breaks that constraint. Creality demonstrated printing outer walls with a 0.4 mm nozzle for detail while blasting infill with a 0.8 mm nozzle for speed. The company claims this workflow is especially valuable on larger models where infill dominates print time.
This is not a toolchanger in the traditional sense. Swapping a full toolhead takes roughly the same time as changing a nozzle, but the heavier assembly is harder to calibrate and adds mass that can introduce vibration. By making only the nozzle interchangeable, Creality sidesteps those problems entirely.
80A TPU Without the Drama
Flexible filaments have always been a weak point for consumer FDM printers. TPU bends, buckles, and feeds inconsistently through standard extruders, so most printers slow to a crawl when faced with anything softer than 95A Shore hardness. Creality says KliTek handles 80A TPU at a stable 3 mm³/s flow rate, which is triple the industry benchmark for flexible materials.
The secret is a patent-pending dual-drive feed system the company calls S-Drive. A primary extruder pulls the filament forward while a secondary unit at the rear pushes from behind, synchronizing the two forces so the filament moves through the tube like a caterpillar rather than bunching up or slipping. Creality claims the same efficiency gain applies to PLA, giving the system a speed advantage on standard materials as well.
Open Source and OrcaSlicer Support
Creality is not locking KliTek behind proprietary software. The company confirmed KliTek will work with open-source OrcaSlicer and plans to open-source Klipper-based firmware configurations. That is a meaningful difference from some competing toolchanger systems that depend on closed slicer integration.
The mix-and-match nozzle concept also opens up slicing workflows that current toolchangers do not support. Because the system knows which nozzle is loaded at any given moment, the slicer can assign different nozzle sizes to different regions of the same print. No other consumer toolchanger has announced this capability, which suggests Creality is building more than a basic multi-material add-on.
What to Expect This Fall
Creality has not announced pricing or a specific launch date beyond "fall 2026." The company is framing the K3 as its next flagship, which suggests it will sit above the current Ender and K-series lineups. Given that the K2 Plus and K2 Pro already occupy the $500-700 range, the K3 with KliTek will likely command a premium.
For makers who have been waiting for a practical, fast, and affordable way to do multi-color and multi-material prints, KliTek looks like the most credible answer yet. Whether it delivers on the speed and reliability claims will depend on real-world testing, but the underlying architecture is sound.
