Electroninks is scaling its conductive ink operations in Japan through a new manufacturing deal with SIIX, targeting automotive and electronics shielding applications.

Austin-based Electroninks is deepening its footprint in Japan through an expanded partnership with SIIX Corporation, a major Japanese electronics manufacturing services provider. The collaboration focuses on electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding solutions built using Electroninks' conductive metal complex inks and SIIX's ultrasonic spray coating systems.

The partnership goes beyond simple distribution. SIIX contributes a specialized ultrasonic spray coating environment that allows the two companies to produce conformal EMI shielding designs, which traditional methods struggle to achieve. Together, they plan to target automotive electronics first, then move into other industry-specific applications as demand grows.

Rather than locking customers into a single off-the-shelf product, Electroninks and SIIX are taking a case-by-case approach. They will prototype with each client, refine the process, and then scale once the preferred workflow is confirmed. Electroninks says it has been improving its own spray-coating capabilities in parallel, which should speed up onboarding for future customers.

Why this matters

EMI shielding is becoming a system-level problem. As automotive and consumer electronics pack more components into tighter spaces, simple foil or foam gaskets no longer cut it. Conductive ink coatings applied additively can cover complex geometries without the material waste of conventional processes.

The timing also fits broader manufacturing trends. Electroninks recently landed a U.S. Air Force contract for on-demand PCB manufacturing and announced entry into the Indian semiconductor market. The Japan move is part of the same pattern: positioning conductive-ink processes as critical infrastructure for electronics manufacturing across allied economies.

The bigger picture

This deal is small in headline dollars but significant in direction. Conductive ink suppliers are quietly becoming enablers for advanced packaging, automotive electrification, and defense supply chains. If Electroninks and SIIX can prove the model at scale, expect similar partnerships to follow in other regions.
