Berlin-based GEFERTEC built a wire-arc additive manufacturing system specifically for titanium, aluminum, and nickel alloys, with a sealed inert-gas chamber and up to 3 kg/h build rate.

GEFERTEC has added a titanium-focused machine to its wire-arc additive manufacturing lineup. The arcTitan joins the existing arc10X, arc80X, and arcLab systems, but where the others are general-purpose WAAM platforms, this one is engineered end to end for reactive metals.

Why a dedicated titanium machine matters

Titanium wire-arc printing has suffered from a credibility problem. General WAAM systems can deposit titanium, but aerospace and energy buyers need repeatable process data, tight oxygen control, and a clean qualification path. A machine built specifically for titanium changes that conversation.

The arcTitan uses a fully enclosed inert-gas chamber that holds oxygen levels between 10 and 15 ppm. That is the range required for consistent titanium deposition without porosity or embrittlement. The system also supports plasma-based deposition and claims build rates up to 3 kg/h.

Shared DNA across the range

All four GEFERTEC machines share the same SINUMERIK ONE control architecture, automated ignition-error correction, and 3DMP process monitoring. That means a shop already running an arc10X for steel or aluminum can add arcTitan without retraining operators or rewriting workflows.

The company has not announced pricing or delivery timelines. No customers have been named as beta testers. But the move follows a clear pattern: WAAM3D, Norsk Titanium, and now GEFERTEC are all betting that material-specific hardware wins regulated aerospace work faster than a one-size-fits-all approach.
