Hadrian and Fortastra Will 3D Print Satellite Hardware

Hadrian is teaming up with Fortastra, a Los Angeles startup focused on on-orbit security infrastructure, to evaluate additive manufacturing for satellite programs. The partnership aims to speed up prototyping and production of spacecraft hardware.

The two companies will examine metal and polymer 3D printing, directed energy deposition, binder jetting, precision CNC machining, EDM, and laser cutting. Matthew Parker, Hadrian's Vice President of Additive Manufacturing, said the goal is to bring high-volume production and large-scale additive capabilities to satellite development.

Fortastra designs and operates maneuverable spacecraft. A Fortastra spokesperson said the partnership brings world-class manufacturing expertise into the engineering process and positions the company to pursue funded prototype efforts that validate advanced manufacturing's impact on satellite development for national security missions.

The collaboration reflects a broader trend: defense and space programs are pulling additive manufacturing out of pilot programs and into real hardware. Hadrian has been building automated factories in the U.S. The Fortastra work is a chance to prove the approach can keep up with the precision demands of orbital hardware.
