Hi3D's anniversary update adds auto part-splitting, AMS color mapping, and smart build-plate orientation in one click.
Generating a 3D model with AI takes minutes. Getting that model onto a printer and actually finishing a successful print still takes hours. Hi3D, the platform that connects AI generation with physical manufacturing, is trying to close that gap with its latest release.
What Hi3D Does
Hi3D started as an AI model generator. The new release expands it into an end-to-end prep workflow. The platform now handles model splitting, multi-color optimization, orientation, and slicer parameter generation without leaving the web interface.
The headline feature is Auto Character Split. Large AI-generated models often exceed the build volume of popular printers like the Bambu A1 or Prusa Core One. Hi3D automatically slices those models into printable parts and generates the connectors needed for assembly afterward. What used to take hours of manual mesh editing in Blender now finishes in minutes.
Deep Bambu Lab Integration
Hi3D's closest integration is with the Bambu Lab ecosystem. The platform maintains an official filament library, maps on-screen colors to real Bambu spools, and exports an optimized 3MF file that opens directly in Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer. Temperatures, layer heights, infill, walls, and supports are all baked into the file.
Multi-color prints on AMS-equipped machines benefit most. AI-generated textures often include tiny color fragments and gradients that trigger dozens of unnecessary filament purges. Hi3D's Color Cleanup algorithm reduces those fragments before the file ever reaches the slicer. The company claims up to 50 percent less waste on multi-material jobs.
Smart Build Plate Layout
Hi3D also auto-orients parts based on geometry and support requirements. Mechanical parts get oriented for minimal support and faster prints. Character models get oriented for surface quality. That distinction matters: a poorly oriented print can mean the difference between a clean surface and a support scar that requires hours of post-processing.
The exported 3MF is compatible with Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, Creality Print, and Elegoo Slicer. So you are not locked into the Bambu ecosystem to use it.
Where It Fits Right Now
Hi3D is not a replacement for CAD. The platform gives you a strong starting model. Functional adjustments still need a dedicated tool. But for makers producing figurines, toys, cosplay props, or custom keycaps, the workflow from concept to printable file is genuinely faster than the traditional route.
