Custom seating just got a lot more reachable
Florida-based medical seating company Kalogon has launched Verro, a new line of Medicare-coded custom wheelchair cushions aimed squarely at users with significant postural support needs — windswept posture, pelvic obliquity, asymmetrical tone, and other complex seating challenges that off-the-shelf foam simply cannot address. The headline feature is a patent-pending variable-density lattice: a 3D-printed elastomer construction whose firmness changes across the surface of the cushion, holding the body where it needs to be held and yielding where pressure needs to be relieved.
What 'variable-density lattice' actually means
Most wheelchair cushions are a uniform block of foam. Verro is not. Kalogon prints a lattice of elastomer cells whose density and stiffness are tuned region by region. In practice that means the cushion can be firmer under a bony prominence that needs stabilization and softer under an area at risk of pressure injury — without gluing together multiple foam densities by hand. Kalogon is also offering dual-density foam options alongside the printed lattice, so clinicians can spec the build that fits the patient rather than forcing the patient to fit the cushion.
Why Medicare coding matters more than the 3D printing
The 3D-printed geometry is the eye-catching part, but the quieter win is the reimbursement pathway. Verro is Medicare-coded, which puts it inside an established billing framework for complex rehab technology. For a wheelchair user, that can be the difference between a $2,000 custom cushion being covered and being an out-of-pocket expense. Kalogon has been here before: its earlier Orbiter Med smart cushion was Medicare-approved for pressure management, and Bondar is a 3D-printed back support custom-fit to each user's body shape. Verro extends that playbook into a coded, clinician-specifiable product line.
The bigger picture: a seating ecosystem
Kalogon has been steadily building a seating platform rather than a one-off product. The company raised $5.75M in June 2026 to scale production and 'make sitting healthier for all,' and its products are manufactured in partnership with BAC, a Florida nonprofit that employs people with disabilities. That manufacturing story — designing assistive tech with, and partly by, the disability community it serves — is part of why Kalogon's cushions gather fast real-world feedback and shrinking production times.
