Lincsolution is developing miniaturized heat pump components under a three-year government research program.

The Heat Pump Push in South Korea

The South Korean government wants 270,000 heat pumps installed nationwide by 2030, up from 25,000 today. That is an 11-fold increase in less than four years. Reaching that number requires cheaper, smaller, and easier-to-manufacture components. Lincsolution, a Seoul-based 3D printing company, thinks additive manufacturing can deliver all three.

The firm has started a three-year international research program focused on next-generation heat pump miniaturization. The work runs through June 2029 under the Energy Technology Leadership International Joint Research project, backed by the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning.

Why 3D Printing Fits

Heat pumps rely on precision metal and polymer parts: valves, heat exchangers, and compact housings. Traditional machining these components in small batches is expensive and slow. 3D printing can produce complex geometries in a single build, cut material waste, and skip the tooling costs that make low-volume production uneconomical.

Lincsolution is not the only Korean firm moving into this space. Smaller and mid-sized manufacturers are entering the heat pump sector as government incentives expand. The challenge is cost: a standard heat pump installation currently runs ten times the price of a residential gas boiler, according to local media. Additive manufacturing could narrow that gap by simplifying supply chains and reducing part count.

The Market Context

LG Electronics and Samsung already dominate heat pump installations in South Korea, together covering the majority of new households. Traditional heating brands like Kyungdong Navien and Otec Carrier have also moved into heat pump boilers recently. Lincsolution is positioning itself as a supplier to these larger players rather than a direct consumer brand.

The research program also gives the company access to international partners and validation from a government institute, which matters when selling into regulated energy and construction markets. If the miniaturization work succeeds, the result could be heat pumps that fit tighter spaces, install faster, and cost less to produce at scale.
