Matthäi Schlüsselfertigbau has launched an in-house construction 3D printing business after using COBOD's printer to produce its own two-story German headquarters.
From pilot project to permanent division
Matthäi Schlüsselfertigbau, a subsidiary of German construction group Matthäi, has formally launched a construction 3D printing division. The move follows the completion of the company's own two-story, 364 square metre headquarters in Selsingen, Lower Saxony, which was built using a COBOD BOD2 construction 3D printer.
The building has been occupied since July 2026. Its walls were printed in roughly 105 hours using Holcim's TectorPrint cementitious material. The foundation, base slab, floors, and roof were constructed with conventional methods. The final structure measures approximately 7.4 metres high, 22.5 metres long, and 13.5 metres deep, delivering 170 square metres on the ground floor and 194 square metres on the first floor.
PERI partnership
For the new division, Matthäi Schlüsselfertigbau has partnered with PERI 3D Construction as its technology provider. PERI supervised the printing phase of the headquarters build alongside architects Schulenburg and planning firm Mense-Korte. No further business model details have been shared yet, but the partnership signals that Matthäi intends to offer 3D printed construction as a service rather than keeping the capability in-house for its own projects only.
Industry reaction
Philip Lund-Nielsen, co-founder of COBOD International, framed the move as a milestone. "Matthäi printed a two-story office building and then set up its own printing division. That step, from one project to an in-house capability, is exactly what we want to see. It shows construction 3D printing has moved from demonstration into everyday business."
Tim Schulenburg, managing director of Schulenburg Architekten, described 3D concrete printing as a chance to revolutionise traditional construction processes, making building faster, more flexible, and more sustainable.
Matthäi is one of Germany's twenty largest construction groups, with more than 3,300 employees and revenue exceeding 1 billion EUR. Its decision to institutionalise 3D printing at that scale adds weight to the argument that construction additive manufacturing is transitioning from pilot programmes to repeatable commercial operations.
