What is OddCube?
Joel Creates, a maker known for practical 3D printing projects, has launched OddCube on Kickstarter. It is a desktop air purifier designed around one simple idea: you should be able to fix it yourself.
The entire chassis is 3D printed. The filter is a standard furnace filter you can buy at any hardware store. The fan is a common PC case fan. When something wears out, you swap that part and keep going.
Why this matters
Most consumer air purifiers are sealed black boxes. A broken filter clip or dead motor usually means the whole unit goes in the trash. OddCube pushes back against that. The design uses off-the-shelf components held together with fasteners, not adhesive.
The project has already passed its Kickstarter goal. Backers have pledged well over its $35,000 target, with the campaign running through early August.
The 3D printing angle
OddCube is not just an air purifier. It is also a printable project. Joel Creates is releasing the design files so backers can print their own units or modify the chassis for different filter sizes. That fits a broader trend of makers treating 3D printers as household repair tools rather than just hobby machines.
