Polymaker has two high-performance ABS filaments on the market: ABS Pro and ABS Max. Both claim superior temperature resistance compared to standard ABS, but they target slightly different users. The question is whether the premium price buys you a noticeable difference on the bench.
What the specs say
ABS Max sits at the top of Polymaker's ABS range. The company rates it for higher heat deflection and better interlayer adhesion than ABS Pro. ABS Pro is positioned as a step up from regular ABS, easier to print with and less prone to warping, but not quite as tough as Max under sustained load.
The key numbers are the heat deflection temperatures, though real-world performance matters more than spec sheets. A filament can look good on paper and still fail in a heated enclosure on a summer day.
Printing experience
My Tech Fun ran both materials through the same standardized tests: dimensional accuracy, bridging, overhangs, and a sustained heat soak. ABS Pro printed reliably at a lower nozzle temperature than Max, which makes it more forgiving on machines with weaker hot ends. Warping was minimal with both, but ABS Pro showed less corner lift on large flat parts.
ABS Max demanded a hotter nozzle and a stable ambient temperature. Once dialed in, it produced stronger parts. The difference showed up most in impact tests: Max survived harder drops before cracking.
When to choose which
ABS Pro is the safer pick if you want ABS performance without constantly babysitting the printer. It handles enclosures well and gives you decent strength without the fine-tuning headache.
ABS Max earns its cost if you are printing functional parts that see real heat or stress. Engine brackets, protective housings, and outdoor fixtures are the use case here. You pay for the extra material science, and it shows.
