QIDI's latest large-format printer adds 18% more build volume, better linear rails, and a 65C heated chamber for under $700.
What's New in the Plus5
QIDI has released the Plus5, a large-format FDM printer that keeps the same footprint as its predecessor while growing the build volume to 320 x 320 x 300 mm. That is roughly 18% more space for prints, and it does not demand a bigger desk.
The frame is all metal. The X-axis now rides on high-precision linear rails, which cuts motion resistance and keeps the printer quiet at speed. QIDI also switched to a 1.5 GT 9 mm belt, which is stiffer than the industry-standard 2 GT 6 mm. The result is tighter cornering and less wobble during fast direction changes.
Heat Management and Air Filtration
The active chamber heating system has been upgraded to 550 W. It can hold 65 C inside the chamber, which is 37.5% more power than the Plus4. That matters for ABS, PC, and other engineering-grade filaments that warp without a stable ambient temperature.
QIDI added an active cooling system for the print head. It works like an air conditioner for the extruder, pushing heat away from the nozzle during long runs. The chamber also gets a three-stage air filter: G3 pre-filter, H12 HEPA, and activated carbon. The company claims it captures 99.5% of airborne particles.
Auto-Leveling and AI Monitoring
The Plus5 uses a contact-style auto-leveling sensor. The nozzle touches the bed directly for zero-offset measurements, which removes guesswork caused by different build plate materials.
An AI-powered camera watches for spaghetti failures and other common print crashes. Multiple temperature sensors inside the chamber enable closed-loop control, and the heated bed has a simple status light so you can see whether the printer is in standby, ready, or printing mode at a glance.
Software and Community
QIDI launched QIDI Maker, a web and mobile platform that pairs with the Plus5. The idea is to let users browse a model library, tap a design, and send it to the printer with cloud-based slicing and preset parameters. It removes the need to learn a complex slicer if you just want to print something quickly.
Price and Availability
The Plus5 is in stock now. The list price is $749, but QIDI is offering a launch discount that drops the final cost below $700 for registered members.
At that price, the Plus5 competes directly with other large-format FDM printers. The combination of a metal frame, linear rails, and a 65 C chamber is unusual in this price range. For makers who want more print area without buying a second machine, the Plus5 looks like a straightforward upgrade.
