QIDI Plus5 Review: A $749 CoreXY That Prints Anything

The Plus5 is the upgrade the Plus4 needed

QIDI has always occupied a quiet corner of the market: capable enclosed CoreXY printers for people who actually use them. The Plus4 earned a loyal following because it printed reliably, handled engineering materials, and cost less than the big names. The Plus5 improves on that formula in almost every way that matters.

The build volume grows from 305x305x280 mm to 320x320x300 mm. That is an 18% increase in cubic space, but QIDI kept the footprint nearly identical. The printer still measures 500x488x558 mm and weighs 29 kg. You are not sacrificing desk real estate for the extra room.

Hotend and chamber upgrades

The hotend now reaches 370 C, up from the Plus4's ceiling. That opens the door to PPS-CF, PC, and PA-CF without hesitation. The chamber heater got a 38% power boost, now running 550 W to reach 65 C faster and hold it more steadily. Long ABS or ASA jobs warp less.

The most interesting thermal addition is the Polar Cooler. It is an active toolhead cooling system that pumps room-temperature air directly onto the extruder. The problem with heated chambers is that heat rises toward the hotend and causes jams. The Polar Cooler fixes that without opening the enclosure. It is essentially air conditioning for your nozzle.

Motion system and first layer

QIDI replaced the old belts with 1.5 GT belts, 9 mm wide. The finer tooth profile reduces ringing and ghosting artifacts, especially on large flat surfaces. A new linear rail on the X-axis replaces the previous rod-based setup, giving the toolhead a stiffer, more precise path.

Auto-leveling now uses the nozzle itself as a sensor. A load cell in the hotend physically touches the build plate and measures deflection. That eliminates probe offset entirely. The first layer was consistently perfect across textured PEI, smooth PEI, and glass during testing.

What you actually get for $749

The base Plus5 costs $749. That gets you the printer, a tool kit, a scraper, a glue stick, and a USB stick with QIDI Studio. The QIDI Box, the multi-color filament handler, is not included. If you want multicolor printing, you need to buy the Box separately or step up to the $899 Combo bundle.

That single-color limitation is worth stating clearly. This machine prints one material at a time out of the box. The Box exists, and it works, but you are paying extra for it. At $749, the Plus5 is competing directly with the Bambu Lab H2S at $1,399. The price gap is enormous. The feature gap is narrower than it sounds.

Print quality and reliability

Over multiple weeks of testing, the Plus5 produced clean Benchy prints, large ABS enclosures with no warping, and carbon-fiber nylon parts with consistent layer adhesion. The chamber camera is 1080p with AI anomaly detection. The touchscreen is responsive. Klipper runs underneath QIDI Studio, and the firmware is open enough to satisfy users who like to tinker.

Filament loading is the one real ergonomic flaw. The Bowden tube inlet sits at the back of the machine, and the coupler catches on full spools. You end up uncoupling the tube and pushing filament in short segments. It is a minor annoyance, but it happens every time you change material.

The verdict

The QIDI Plus5 is the best printer QIDI has ever made. It is also one of the best values in the enclosed CoreXY market right now. The 370 C hotend, active chamber heating, and Polar Cooler make it genuinely versatile. The 1.5 GT belts and nozzle-as-sensor leveling show that QIDI is iterating on the details that actually affect print quality.

If you regularly print ABS, ASA, PA, PC, or PPS-CF, this is the machine to beat under $1,000. The lack of included multicolor hardware is a legitimate downside, but the base printer is so capable that many buyers will not miss it. At $749, you are getting a serious workhorse that costs less than many single-material printers from competing brands.
