Selle Italia's new Unica saddle uses 3D printing and rider-specific pressure data to build a custom internal lattice instead of fixed cushioning zones.
Selle Italia has started selling a 3D-printed saddle that actually fits the way you ride. Called Unica, the new product uses pressure-mapping data from the idmatch system to design a unique internal lattice for each rider, rather than stamping out saddles with the same generic padding zones.
How It Works
The process begins with an idmatch pressure map. A bike fitter records where your weight sits on the saddle and how it shifts when you pedal. That data gets uploaded to Selle Italia, where software engineers it into a 3D-printed cushioning structure matched to your anatomy.
The outside of the saddle still looks like a standard SLR 3D or Novus Boost Evo 3D. Only the inside changes. You choose a Carbon or Elite rail and a base shape, then Selle Italia prints the padding to match your pressure distribution.
Why This Matters
Most 3D-printed saddles on the market use preset cushioning zones: softer in the nose, firmer at the back, repeat for every customer. Unica removes that middleman. The lattice density rises and falls exactly where your body tells it to.
Selle Italia says the result is less pressure concentration at the main contact point, which should help riders hold an efficient position longer. The company also argues that a change in bike fit or riding position does not automatically mean you need a new saddle. In most cases a fitter can adjust the existing Unica on the new setup without remapping.
Availability
Unica is available through authorized Selle Italia centers. After the pressure-mapping session, the saddle takes about three weeks to arrive. Buyers get a printed report of their pressure map and an identity card pairing them to their specific saddle. The name can even be printed on the saddle itself.
Models available are the SLR 3D Carbon, SLR 3D Elite, and Novus Boost Evo 3D. Pricing depends on the base model and rail choice. Selle Italia is positioning Unica for riders at any level, not just pros.
