SHINING 3D's new FreeScan Combo+ Wireless scanner removes the cable, adds Wi-Fi 7, and brings AI-assisted hole detection to industrial inspection workflows.
SHINING 3D has released the FreeScan Combo+ Wireless, a handheld 3D scanner that ditches the cable for Wi-Fi 7 and runs up to two hours on a single charge. The move removes the last major ergonomic limitation from the company's metrology-grade scanning line.
The Combo+ Wireless keeps the dual-mode scanning approach of its wired predecessor. A blue laser array handles detailed measurement, while an infrared VCSEL source captures large surfaces without markers. In High-Speed Scan Mode, the system fires 93 laser lines at up to 180 frames per second. Detailed Scan Mode drops to 25 parallel lines for precision work on complex geometry.
For large parts, the scanner adds video photogrammetry. Operators place scale bars around the component, capture a reference framework, then switch to laser scanning. The sequence limits accumulated error that normally builds when stitching together multiple passes on big automotive or aerospace structures.
Software gets an AI upgrade. The system now automatically detects holes during scanning and flags them for operators. Once the scan finishes, users jump straight into SHINING3D Inspect for 3D color-map comparison, GD&T analysis, and sheet-metal inspection without exporting data to separate programs.
The battery is user-replaceable, rated for two hours of continuous scanning. At 620 grams, the scanner is light enough for all-day use on a factory floor or outdoor site. SHINING 3D positions the Combo+ Wireless for automotive inspection, aerospace maintenance, and reverse engineering of large industrial castings.
