Stratasys' new F870 prints parts up to 1,000mm long in a fully heated 95°C chamber, targeting manufacturers that want to replace outsourced tooling.
A Big FDM System for Factories, Not Hobbyists
Stratasys has unveiled the F870, a large-format FDM 3D printer built for production environments. The build volume measures 1,000 x 610 x 610 mm, or about 39.4 x 24 x 24 inches, inside a fully heated chamber that Stratasys says holds 95°C across the entire build length. That heat uniformity matters when you are printing large Nylon 12CF parts that would otherwise warp mid-build.
The material list includes Nylon 12CF, ASA, ABS-M30, a new gray FDM ABS Draft filament, and both breakaway and soluble support materials. Four 4,100 cm³ spools feed the system with automatic changeover, a setup borrowed from Stratasys' larger F3300 so shops running both machines can consolidate inventory. An integrated regenerative dryer keeps material conditioned through multi-day runs, and the printer is rated for up to two weeks of unattended operation.
Three Print Heads, Three Jobs
The F870 ships with three interchangeable print heads. One is tuned for fine-resolution work like precision tooling and inspection gauges. A second carries carbon-fiber composite capability. The third is built for speed, roughly doubling output on ASA material compared to standard FDM systems. Operators swap heads depending on the job, which keeps capital costs down when you do not need every feature on every print.
Targeting Tooling, Not Prototypes
Stratasys is positioning the F870 as a direct replacement for outsourced CNC-machined or welded tooling. The pitch is that end-of-arm robot grippers, ergonomic aids, lift assists, drill guides, alignment jigs, and protective housings can all come off the F870 instead of leaving the building. At IMTS 2026, the company is showing a heat shield gripper built for robotic end-effector use.
The system weighs 1,800 pounds and requires three-phase 208V power. It is not the kind of printer you move between jobs on a cart. Stratasys will give the F870 its full public debut at IMTS 2026 in Chicago, running September 14 through 19 at booth 338460 in the South Hall.
