Swiss satellite communications firm SWISSto12 signed an MoU with Mitsubishi Electric to expand 3D printed RF hardware and payload systems across Japan and the Asia-Pacific.

SWISSto12 has agreed to explore satellite communications opportunities in Japan and the broader Asia-Pacific region alongside Mitsubishi Electric. The memorandum of understanding covers advanced payloads, radio frequency products and market development, with an emphasis on 3D printed hardware.

A manufacturing edge

SWISSto12 builds satellite payloads, RF products and compact geostationary platforms using additive manufacturing. Its HummingLink architecture incorporates 3D printed RF components, and the company says more than 2,000 of its products are already operating in orbit. Under the new agreement, Mitsubishi Electric will contribute its satellite and defense systems expertise while SWISSto12 provides its communications payload and manufacturing technologies.

Growth and momentum

The Swiss company reported $140 million in revenue for 2025 and says it has more than $500 million in contracted orders. Its compound annual growth rate has reached 110% since 2022. Earlier in 2026, the European Space Agency committed EUR 73 million to accelerate industrialization of SWISSto12's HummingSat platform and strengthen its manufacturing infrastructure.

Why it matters

The partnership signals that 3D printed RF hardware is moving from experimental to operational at scale. By combining Mitsubishi Electric's regional presence with SWISSto12's additive manufacturing approach, the two companies aim to capture sovereign communications demand across land, sea, air and space applications.
