A UK defence programme with Alloyed has brought a family of digitally manufactured turbojet engines from concept to flight-ready in under seven months.
From Concept to Flight-Ready in Months
A UK defence programme has successfully designed and delivered a new family of turbojet engines in less than six months. The Ministry of Defence's Strategic Capabilities Office worked with advanced alloy specialist Alloyed to establish sovereign propulsion capability for future UK-built defence systems. The digitally manufactured engines range from small drones to larger aircraft.
A 300N-class engine already completed flight testing and is now in serial production in the UK. A larger 1100N-class engine reached flight-ready status in under seven months. The programme established a digital design and modelling approach that brings new propulsion systems into production in months rather than years.
The modular architecture lets future improvements arrive without extensive redesign. The programme has created more than 60 engineering and advanced manufacturing jobs in the UK, with 45 more roles planned over the next year.
Alloyed CEO Michael Holmes said the work shows the power of combining defence expertise, digital engineering, and industrial innovation. Earlier this year, Alloyed secured £1 million from the Aerospace Technology Institute to develop a nickel-based AM superalloy for next-generation gas turbines.
