Deadline-driven distributed printing

Trade show stands are deadline bombs. The geometry is usually one-off, the tolerances are tight, and the install date never moves. UPM Group split production between WASP-equipped facilities in Modena and London, treating robotic 3D printing as a distributed factory rather than a single bottleneck.

The result was a 100 m² installation completed in about six weeks. The stand combined 3D printed structural elements with custom furniture, all produced in fire-resistant PETG on WASP HDP XL extruders.

The exhibition stand as a proving ground

This is not the first fully 3D printed booth, but it is one of the largest. Zaha Hadid Architects printed a six-metre air traffic control tower for Passenger Terminal Expo 2026 using the same WASP hardware, running a continuous 270-hour print. Trindo GmbH built an earlier sand-based booth for Viscom in Düsseldorf.

The pattern is clear: large-format AM is moving from novelty to normal for exhibition fabricators. The advantage is not just speed. It is the ability to fold complex geometry, lighting channels, and structural features directly into the printed parts, then ship and assemble them on a fixed schedule.
