Velo3D opened its 289,000-square-foot Forge 1 campus in Livermore, California, with room for over 100 metal additive systems.
Velo3D opened its first Livermore production facility on July 15, marking a major domestic expansion for the company. The 289,000-square-foot campus, called Forge 1, is positioned as one of the largest metal additive manufacturing sites in North America.
The facility gives Velo3D space for up to 40 large-format systems in its initial phase, with infrastructure prepared to scale beyond 100 systems across its Fremont headquarters and the Livermore campus combined. Those machines will print metal parts for aerospace, defense, and energy customers.
CEO Arun Jeldi tied the investment to demand for domestic metal AM capacity. The company says customers in strategic industries want parts produced closer to home, and Forge 1 is built to handle end-to-end production: machine assembly, printing, post-processing, inspection, and customer acceptance.
The Livermore mayor's office praised the investment for creating high-skilled manufacturing jobs and strengthening the local supply chain. Velo3D is the only large-format laser powder bed fusion OEM founded and based in the United States with hardware and software developed domestically.
Operations will begin in phases as systems are installed. The Fremont headquarters will continue handling research and development, applications engineering, and customer qualification work.
