3D Systems has launched a CEO search as Dr. Jeffrey Graves prepares to exit the role he has held since 2023.
A leadership transition at a pivotal moment
3D Systems has announced that Dr. Jeffrey Graves will step down as President and CEO, with the company also confirming his departure from the Board of Directors. The company expects to have a replacement in place before the end of 2026.
Graves will stay on as CEO and President until a successor is named, then move into a consulting role for six months to support the handover. 3D Systems has brought in an executive search firm to run the process.
The timing
The CEO news broke on August 4, one day after 3D Systems published its Q2 2026 financial results. Revenue for the quarter came in at $94.6 million, essentially flat year-over-year once you strip out the software businesses sold in 2025. Healthcare revenue rose 6.8 percent to $48.1 million, while aerospace and defense grew by more than 20 percent. Net loss for the quarter was $12.9 million, a big swing from the $104 million net profit recorded a year earlier when the Geomagic sale added $125.7 million to the bottom line.
What it means for the industry
Graves led 3D Systems through a painful restructuring. The company has closed or sold non-core operations, trimmed costs, and tried to refocus on healthcare and aerospace. The Q2 numbers suggest that strategy is slowly working: adjusted EBITDA loss narrowed to $0.8 million from $5.3 million a year prior. The question now is whether a new CEO can sustain that trajectory or needs to chart a different course.
The industry has been waiting for clarity on 3D Systems' direction. The CEO change will influence how customers, partners, and investors read the company's next moves.
