A Malaysian mold designer created the most downloaded 3D-printed toy of 2026. His HelixCore press-and-spin ball has nearly 400,000 downloads and spawned a copycat market selling for as little as 3 RMB.

A press-and-spin ball designed by a Malaysian mold maker has become the most downloaded 3D-printed model of 2026. The designer, known on MakerWorld as YY the panjang, spent 16 years designing injection molds before he ever opened Bambu Studio. His creation, HelixCore, has racked up more than 22,000 downloads, 19,000 confirmed prints, and 1,200-plus ratings on MakerWorld. Injection-molded copies already sell for as little as 3 to 5 RMB in China.

Yun Goo designs molds for a family-owned factory in Malaysia. His day job involves tolerances measured in hundredths of a millimeter, hot plastic injected under pressure, and parts that have to look identical at copy one and copy ten thousand. That background shows in HelixCore. The ball uses a simple mechanism: press the top and a weighted flywheel inside spins, then returns. Two 608 bearings, one rubber band, no electronics. It is easy to print, satisfying to use, and cheap enough that print farms are running them around the clock.

The model launched on MakerWorld on June 10. It blew up overseas first. An Instagram video hit 100,000 views, then a Douyin video hit 400,000, then Xiaohongshu added another 200,000. Downloads and platform boost tokens spiked to more than 300 a day. Someone else applied for a design patent in the EU after the model went viral, but Yun says his MakerWorld launch records and download data serve as prior public disclosure.

What makes HelixCore different from the wave of flexi dinosaurs and articulated fidgets is the engineering inside. Yun does not design toys the way most MakerWorld creators do. He designs them the way a mold maker thinks about plastic flow, cooling, and ejection. That means the parts actually fit together, the mechanism survives repeated drops, and the print profile works on both bed slingers and Core XY machines.

He is already planning the sequel. Pressable fruits are next: oranges, watermelons, maybe a whole produce line built around the same squeeze-to-spin mechanism. The injection molders will follow again, as they did with the Radish Knife and now HelixCore. The pattern is familiar. 3D printing validates the design, opens the market, then mass production races to the bottom on price. For Yun, the point is not the copycats. It is that a mold designer who started with a Bambu Lab P1P and a couple of kids who liked toys ended up with the most iconic breakout model of the year.
