A $300 CoreXY printer with 4-color capability takes on Bambus $300 entry-level workhorse. The battle for your first serious 3D printer.
The Great Budget CoreXY Divide
In 2026, two very different philosophies are colliding at the $300 price point. The Bambu Lab A1 offers proven reliability and a polished ecosystem. The Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 throws everything at the wall: CoreXY kinematics, 4-color CANVAS system, 500mm/s speed, all for under $300.
Bambu A1: The Safe Choice
The A1 is Bambu Lab at its most accessible. It takes the proven P1S formula and strips it down to essentials: reliable, enclosed, and works out of the box. The ecosystem is mature, the firmware is stable, and support is excellent.
Strengths:
- Proven reliability and print quality
- Mature Bambu Studio slicer and cloud ecosystem
- Excellent documentation and community support
- Reliable AMS multi-material system (sold separately)
Weaknesses:
- Open-frame design limits material options
- 256x256x256mm build volume
- AMS sold separately (~$250 extra for multicolor)
Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2: The Value Bombshell
Elegoo dropped the CC2 as a fully enclosed CoreXY printer with an integrated 4-color CANVAS system, 350C nozzle, and 500mm/s speed - all for under $300. It is the most aggressive value proposition in 3D printing right now.
Strengths:
- Fully enclosed with heated chamber
- Integrated 4-color CANVAS system (no extra cost)
- CoreXY kinematics for speed and accuracy
- 350C nozzle for engineering materials
Weaknesses:
- New product with unproven long-term reliability
- Firmware polish lags behind Bambu
- Enclosed design can be harder to troubleshoot
- Community support is still developing
Who Should Buy Which
Choose Bambu A1 if: You want a no-nonsense printer that works immediately, value ecosystem maturity over raw specs, and might add AMS later.
Choose Elegoo CC2 if: You want maximum features for your money, need an enclosed printer for engineering materials, and are comfortable being an early adopter.
The CC2 is a wake-up call to the industry. If Elegoo can maintain quality control, Bambu and Prusa will need to respond aggressively on price.
