Elegoo's first filament dryer heats to 85C and handles engineering materials, but the single-spool design limits its appeal.
Filament absorbs moisture the moment you open the bag. That moisture shows up as stringing, popping, and weak layer adhesion. You blame the printer, but the real culprit is often the material. The Elegoo H1 HT exists to fix that. It is Elegoo's first filament dryer, and it arrives with an 85C maximum temperature, automatic spool rotation, and dual vents that actively cycle out humid air. The price is $70, or about GBP 62.
Design and Build Quality
The H1 HT measures 280 x 126 x 257mm and weighs 1.53kg empty. That is compact enough to sit alongside most printers without dominating the bench. The build quality is noticeably better than Elegoo's budget machines. The lid has a proper latch that seals, and the 3.5-inch color touchscreen is responsive. The interface is simple: home screen shows chamber temperature, relative humidity, set temperature, remaining time, and current material. There are 11 presets covering PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS, ASA, PET, PP, PC, PA, PAHT-CF, and PVA, plus a custom mode.
Two filament outlets change how you use the box. The rear horizontal outlet feeds standard materials like PLA and PETG directly into the printer. The lid outlet handles TPU and fiber-reinforced filaments, routing them upward to reduce friction. That is a sensible split. Flexible and abrasive materials do not belong in the same feed path as standard PLA.
Performance
The dryer reached 85C in under nine minutes during our test. It held temperature within a few degrees of the set point, and the rotating spool distributed heat evenly. We loaded damp PLA that had been sitting in a humid workshop for weeks. Prints before drying showed stringing and rough surface finish. After an eight-hour dry cycle, the same filament produced clean layers and minimal stringing. The difference was immediate and obvious.
The active ventilation is the feature that sets this apart from a passive heated box. Moist air is expelled during operation, and the chamber seals shut afterward. That prevents the moisture from re-saturating the air inside. Passive boxes eventually reach equilibrium. This one does not.
Limitations
The single-spool capacity is the main drawback. If you print with four materials, you need four units. That is four power outlets and four times the floor space. The price stays competitive for one unit, but the total cost scales quickly. There is also no app, no printer communication, and no way to daisy-chain units. Connectivity is limited to the onboard controls.
Noise measured 57.2dB during active drying. That is audible but not disruptive. Power draw averaged 170-180W while drying PLA at 40C.
Verdict
The H1 HT is a serious first effort. The 85C ceiling handles engineering materials that cheaper dryers cannot touch. The active vents and rotating spool make it a real dryer rather than a warm box. At $70, it undercuts most established names while offering better build quality and a clearer interface. The single-spool limit is real, but if you only need one dryer, this is one of the best options available right now.
