The HeyGears G1 Kickstarter campaign offers full-color UV printing and SLA-style layer curing in one desktop machine.

Two machines in one chassis

HeyGears has launched a Kickstarter for the G1, a desktop device that combines a UV flatbed printer with a resin 3D printer. The pitch is straightforward: you get layer-based 3D printing for parts and flatbed UV printing for logos, artwork, or full-color surfaces, all from the same machine.

The build volume reaches 420 mm by 320 mm by 130 mm. That is generous for a prosumer flatbed. For resin 3D printing, the G1 uses an Epson print head and claims layer resolution as fine as 10 microns. Ink or resin is supplied in CMYK bottles rather than locked cartridges, which should lower running costs over time.

Early impressions

Early review units have started appearing online. YouTube maker Steve Makes Everything posted hands-on footage showing full-color resin prints and flatbed transfers on various materials. The results look credible, though it is still early and the sample set is small.

The Kickstarter early-bird price sits around $2,000, with a higher manufacturer suggested retail price expected once shipping begins. Backers should expect a wait: Kickstarter hardware campaigns routinely miss their original delivery windows, and UV printhead components can be finicky in early production runs.

Who is this for

The G1 targets small workshops, product designers, and makers who want full-color output without buying a dedicated industrial UV printer. It also appeals to users who want functional resin parts and the ability to add custom graphics or labels directly to those parts in the same workflow.

That combination is unusual. Most UV flatbed printers do not include a 3D printing mode, and most resin printers have no flatbed function. If HeyGears delivers on its claims, the G1 fills a real gap in the desktop fabrication market.
