Prusa's INDX 8-nozzle toolchanger for CORE One enters the shipping phase, with standard kits leaving the factory by end of July and major upgrades to waste reduction, calibration, and ColorMix support.

INDX Enters Shipping Phase

Prusa Research has released its July 2026 update on the INDX toolchanger system for the CORE One/+ 3D printer. The Bondtech INDX Founders Edition has already begun shipping to early adopters, and the standard INDX Conversion Kit is now scheduled to leave the factory by the end of July, with the entire first batch expected to ship by the end of August.

What Is INDX?

The INDX is an 8-nozzle toolchanger system designed as a conversion kit for the Prusa CORE One and CORE One+. Unlike filament-switching solutions or basic toolchangers, INDX swaps entire print heads — each with its own nozzle — enabling true multi-material and multi-color printing with minimal waste. The first batch of CORE One INDX kits sold out in record time, and the system has been running continuously in Prusa's offices, amassing thousands of tool changes.

Key Upgrades Since Launch

New Docking Panel

The front panel has been redesigned to be less dense, offering a clearer view of parked tools and the printer interior. Users can also monitor prints via the Buddy camera mounted inside the chamber.

Waste Bin with Silicone Nozzle Cleaner

INDX addresses one of the biggest pain points in multi-material printing — plastic waste. The system includes a waste bin with a silicone nozzle cleaner that primes nozzles between tool changes. Prusa claims the average priming pellet weighs just 0.013–0.015g, producing nearly 30 times less waste than competing solutions. In a comparison test using a typical model, INDX produced only 29g of waste compared to 696.4g from the most wasteful competitor.

Automatic Tool Offset Calibration

A new Tool Offset Sensor provides automatic, precise calibration of each toolhead's position. The system uses an inductive sensor (chosen over a camera for its resistance to filament debris) and runs calibration on every print start. The process measures Z-position via loadcell, then scans X and Y axes at multiple speeds to eliminate measurement lag errors.

ColorMix and Slicing Software

Prusa has integrated ColorMix — a halftoning-based color mixing system — into both EasyPrint and PrusaSlicer. With the 8-tool INDX, users can achieve CMYKW+RGB color setups. A new Color Mix Shading web app lets users create unique effects with virtual lighting and baked-in shading.

Firmware and Future Updates

Prusa recently released firmware v6.6.1 for the INDX system and is preparing four additional print profiles. The company is also working on a larger waste bin option and teases additional technical features for future updates. Orders for the next batch of INDX conversion kits are expected to open soon, with shorter shipping timelines than the initial batch.

Pricing and Availability

The INDX conversion kit for CORE One/+ starts at $749 for the 4-tool version and $999 for the 8-tool version. The CORE One printer itself starts at $1,100 as a kit or $1,449 assembled. Installation typically takes 5–6 hours, and Prusa has published a complete step-by-step installation guide online.
