Prusa Research is refreshing its entire consumer lineup with '+' models that add nozzle wiping, revised belts, and improved firmware. Existing owners can buy a $10 upgrade kit or print parts themselves.
Prusa's entire lineup gets a '+'
Prusa Research just announced second-generation upgrades for its three main consumer printers: the XL, Core One, and Core One L. The updated models carry a '+' suffix and start shipping immediately. All new orders now ship with the upgraded hardware at no extra cost.
What changed on the inside
The most visible upgrade is automatic nozzle wiping. The second-generation Core One and Core One L also get revised belt systems that Prusa says improve reliability and reduce maintenance. Firmware improvements from the past year are baked in from day one, so new owners do not have to wait for over-the-air updates to catch up.
The XL receives the same belt revisions and firmware baseline. Prusa also confirmed that the INDX multi-material toolchanger remains on the roadmap for the XL, with new toolheads expected later in 2026.
Upgrade path for existing owners
If you already own a Core One or Core One L, Prusa is selling a $10 upgrade kit that adds the new belt tensioner and nozzle wiper components. You can also download the parts files and print them yourself if you prefer. The company says the kit takes roughly 30 minutes to install.
XL owners get the belt upgrade through their existing service channels. Prusa has not priced that upgrade separately yet, but says it will be available soon.
Why this matters
The '+' refresh is Prusa's answer to a crowded mid-range market. Bambu Lab, Elegoo, and QIDI have all released competitive machines in the past year. By refreshing its existing models instead of launching entirely new ones, Prusa keeps current owners in the ecosystem while lowering the effective price of entry for buyers who want the latest hardware.
The $10 Core One upgrade kit is a smart move. It signals that Prusa sees its printers as long-term platforms rather than disposable products. That is the kind of policy that builds loyalty, especially when the alternative is buying a whole new machine.
