Slant 3D's Portals platform lets designers upload models and sell print-on-demand products while the company handles every physical step.
The print-on-demand model finally works for 3D designs
Slant 3D has launched Portals, a free platform that turns any 3D model file into a live store in under a minute. You upload an STL, set a price, and share a link. The company prints, packs, ships, and handles customer service. You keep the margin on every sale.
This removes the biggest friction point for designers who want to monetize their files: inventory. Traditional merch platforms still require you to hold stock or manage production. Portals backs every listing with Slant's existing print farm infrastructure, which means a viral TikTok tonight turns into fulfilled orders tomorrow morning.
The platform has already attracted real creators. Luke Edwin sells camera accessories through his Portal. Jake Ward's custom stroller cup holder has generated thousands in sales. Matthew Ghost uses Portals to let his Instagram followers buy the 3D printed models he designs, no printer required on their end.
Slant 3D operates large FDM print farms in the United States. That matters for two reasons. First, domestic production means most orders ship within 36 hours, not weeks from overseas. Second, the company can offer a wide material and color selection without you having to buy spools or maintain machines.
Portals is not the only print-on-demand service, but it is one of the few that treats the designer as the merchant. You control pricing, branding, and the customer relationship. Slant handles the manufacturing backend. The revenue split works in your favor: production costs come out of each sale, and the remainder is yours.
For makers who already design models, this is worth testing. The setup takes less time than reading the terms of service for most marketplaces. If your designs sit on Thingiverse with no monetization path, Portals at least lets you try converting downloads into revenue without upfront investment.
